No, you are not seeing things! If you live in South Florida, specifically Broward and Palm Beach counties, you may qualify to receive a grant from the government to hurricane-proof your home – free!  This money is to be used to strengthen your home against a hurricane.

If you live in Broward County, this grant will apply to households of a family up to four, with a combined income of $60,250 per year. The grant will assist you with repairing your roof, and strengthening your windows and doors against hurricanes. Broward County residents can potentially receive up to $40,000 in grants, which would be provided in the form of a loan if the property were to be sold within the next 10 years.

Broward County residents can inquire about more information by contacting the Broward Alliance for Neighborhood Development at 954-581-9899.

The process is a little different for those that live in Palm Beach County, since they are still dealing with the devastation of Hurricane Wilma. Those residents can receive assistance with fixing roofs and helping with the damage from that storm. If you live in Delray Beach, please contact BAND at 561-243-7280. West Palm Beach residents can call to see if they qualify by calling 561-822-1250, and Riviera Beach residents can find out if they can get grant assistance by calling 561-845-4060.
